Skillet announces 12th Song for AWAKE

I had heard rumors, on twitter and on skillet forums that there was to be a 12th song on the Awake album. I even read a few posts that accused Skillet of adding a song this late in the process just to be able to put out a “special edition” and make even more money from their fans. While I’m no pan-head, I couldn’t believe that to be true. So I am un-surprised by the fact that the 12th song will be included in the CD when it is released on August 25th. Well the 12th song as well as a new playorder has been released. First off below is the new Play Order, including the 12th song titled “Believe”.

As I have said the new song is titled “Believe” and at 3:50 it is one of the longest songs on the CD. I had thought, when I heard there was to be another song, that it would be another hard rocking song like “Hero” and “Monster”. Well as usual I was wrong. This song is serious and melodic song that I am finding to be a complex combination of melody and lyrics that I have been finding all to rare.
The songs screams of misunderstanding and unrequited love, still to call this song a simple ballad would be to seriously shortchange this song. This song has all the elements to rise above the classification of ballad. I am reminded of songs such as “Staind – Its been awhile”, “Incubus – Drive” and “3 doors down – When I’m Gone”.
After doing so much right with the other songs on the CD I was worried that they were adding this song so soon before release in order to ‘fill out’ the CD. I know that I am not the only one to comment on the length of the CD in general. I was glad to hear well the new song fit in with the rest of the album. As I have said in my previous review of the CD I have big expectations for what is going to happen starting August 25th.
