I picked up this CD at the same concert That I picked up last weeks CD. Up at the net when Mike and I got to see Hill City Lights, Third from First and Manic Drive. Manic Drive was the Headliner and they put on a great show. One of the coolest things about the show was the guitarist who did this robot act all through the concert. (see below) Needless to say that after the show I was looking forward to hearing the CD.
The band has a style of music that I am not sure how to describe. they list themselves on Myspace as Rock and Alternative but I would have to add that it is rock and alternative with a smattering of Dance and Electronica. Even Old School bells and Choruses Like in their song December Morning, which just happens to be one of the better songs on the CD. Here is just a taste of the Lyrics from the song “December Morning”
December Morning
Snow falls softly to the ground
The frozen air yields the tears
Silver bells fill the sound
It’s the beginning of that time of year
And the chorals sang
Sooths the soul
But this tragedy has marked a new remorse
And in this time as I wake
A new sad memory is placed
CHORUS:
Two A.M. on Christmas Eve
You rejoice with angels as I grieve
Still trumpets sound and church bells ring
This is my December mourning
On this beautiful December morning
Lights light up the Christmas tree
That briefly captivates me
Hear wind whistle through my door
Like whispers aiming to taunt my soul
To hear your voice
To smell your skin
To turn back time
To see you again
No one deserves to feel like this
On my melancholy Christmas
CHORUS:
Two A.M. on Christmas Eve
You rejoice with angels as I grieve
Still trumpets sound and church bells ring
This is my December mourning
Two AM on Christmas Eve
I remember you more than anything
Still people laugh and angels sing
This is my December mourning
The CD itself spans several music styles with each song having its own unique style and sound, and while it is true that some of the songs sound similar to each other the play order is set up to keep the songs separate. This CD is just a simple solid production with very few if any things wrong with it. However that being said it is possible that one of the things I enjoy about the CD may be taken as a negative by some. The very amount of diversity that I find to be fresh and exciting could very well be taken by others as trying to fit into to many genre.
So if you have strict and narrow guidelines about what styles of music you like then you may not find the CD as enjoyable As I have and I would suggest you check out manic drive here on the podcast before you decide if you like the band or not. I would also suggest to anyone who gets the chance, that if Manic Drive is in your area (I just checked the Myspace page and they are touring across the country) then you make a point to go to one of their shows and let em know you heard them here.
Now I am giving This CD 4.5 stars out of 5 which puts them into pretty rare company here with the rest of the music I have reviewed and you can find all of my reviews at Jtindie.com
