Future of New Media Part 2

I wanted to continue my thoughts on the future of new media, if your reading this and haven’t read part one yet then go back and read it first. Chances are what I write here will make more sense that way. Now if you are looking for a technical article on how I plan on going about adding video to my audio podcast then you are reading the wrong thing. Truth be told I have no idea how I am going to do it, I only know that it is my hope to add a live video cast to the audio podcast.
It has been two days since my epiphany on the subject of ‘New Media’ and my head is still buzzing. I would love to find some serious video casters in my area and take a trip to see how they do things. I have a feeling that a lot of what I think I know I have wrong, and actually seeing how things are done could save me a lot of time, money, and heartache. Right now, however, my mind is on the philosophy behind creating a show like Furious world, or really what drives any of us to create.
For me it is that I have always been creative in one form or another, the fact that I never kept won with any of the particular forms used to bother me until I realized what I was really striving for was an outlet, any outlet for my creativity. Now as I look back on the many hobbies that have grabbed my attention over the years I have been on this earth I see that each was creative in its own nature. Painting, Photography, Poetry (writing and performing) Blogging, Writing Fiction, model building, Computer Graphics, Programming, Jewelry Making and that is only the short list off of the top of my head. I have this need to create, I would imagine that this feeling is pretty common among the many others in the ‘Podcasting – New Media” Camp.
I found the following quote on Peter Himmelman’s Website in the Bio section
“Do something that makes you cry, makes you weep with awe. There is a state of Humility where you can feel something coming from a dimension outside oneself. That recognition, that sense of awe, is what I use to make things.”
– Peter Himmelman
I find this statement to help me define that urge in myself to be creative, the truth is that if I am not creative it begins to affect me, almost like withdrawal symptoms. There are times for me, like right now, that something just grabs me and refuses to let go. That happened when I listened to my first podcast and realized the power that could be held in one person’s voice. I realized right then that I had to be a part of it. My Pastor defines this as Passion. In a sermon one sunday he spoke from the front of the church and he said “Your Passion is that thing you can’t stop thinking about, it is that thing that makes you lose sleep at night, it is that thing that you are willing to risk for.” It is that kind of passion that is fueling the whole “New Media” Revolution. It starts when a person believes what he has to say is either worthwhile, informative, or entertaining, and now with the internet that person can find those people who also believe that what you are saying is indeed worthwhile, informative, and entertaining.
