Pride and Proper

Ok so I have been getting into the “Social Networking” Sites pretty heavy over the past few weeks, and after twittering myself into carpal tunnel I began to wonder what it is all about. I have been on Myspace, Facebook, linkedin, not to mentioned quite a few more specialized “Christian” Social Networks. As I look at all the time I spend on these sites I had to take a step back and ask myself “Why am I doing all of this?” When I started the podcast I had a clear goal, and I still have that goal.

My goal was and is to help spread the word about bands that most people never get to hear. I found so many talented bands that no one has ever heard of and that radio simply doesn’t play. Now I have realized that part of podcasting and part of “Social Networking” by its very nature is me standing up saying “Hey look at me!” and “Listen to what I have to say and the songs I have to play” The whole idea of it all makes Pride a terrible problem. I find myself constantly asking myself “Why am I doing this?” is it to Help get the message of these bands out, or is it because I want to see how many friends on Myspace I have or how many followers on Twitter I have.

Sometimes it is one answer and sometimes it is both. I am not going to lie about it and say it I don’t get a kick when I get a new Voice mail saying they love the show, or I get a new set of followers on Twitter. I also have to say that I am really happy I do this when I get an email telling me “I can’t find music like this where I live” or the emails I got telling me how much they got out of the Justin Lookadoo “Being Dateable” segments (something for which the only thing I did was was hit the play button) So I guess I walk a fine line between Pride and Proper so if I wander into the pride, I ask you all to forgive me but please hold me accountable.
