Medicine
As many of you know I was in the hospital a little while back and one thing that came out of my hospital stay is that I am currently taking so many pills that I don’t need to eat anymore, the pills fill me up. One of my medications is an antibiotic that I take since it was an severe infection that put me in the hospital in the first place.
Well I had to have my prescription for the antibiotic refilled and so I looked around and saw that this medicine was listed under Giant Eagle’s Generic plan where a months worth of pills will cost you 4$. I thought “Hey I’m going there” so I had the doctor call in the prescription to that pharmacy and went to pick it up. This is when I found out something about that generic Plan. When I picked up the pills the lady at the counter said “That will be 207.00$.”
Ok at this point I have to say that I did not quite understand and I started leaning over the counter. (as if to pull the pharmacist over the counter and beat them. “No there must be something wrong” I said and explained that it should be alot less since the drug is listed on there generic plan. To which I Got this Response “Well yes if you have our advantage card.” To which I pulled out my advantage card and the price went from 207$ to 16$
Someone please explain to me why a drug is 207$ if I have an insurance card but only 16$ if I have a supermarket discount card. (Granted I know the answer so please consider this a hypothetical question) People wonder why medical insurance is 700$ a month, or more, for a single person. When Pharmacies are charging them 200 bucks for 10 bucks in pills. That works out to a 20 times markup.
I know I try not to Rant but this whole thing has just taken me by surprise.
